This video shows Kieran: He has profound and multiple physical and learning difficulties. He is also completely blind. Here Kieran has the Skoog tuned to a pentatonic scale allowing him to freely improvise with other musicians. He is free to express himself musically and is engaged, listening , making choices and playing his instrument, his way. He has the Skoog set to play a plucked string. He likes to play by 'plucking' and 'striking' his Skoog. Lifting, twisting, striking and dropping the Skoog. The different movements give different inflections and and timbres to the sound and he is playing with sensitivity and skill. It is important to note that as the Skoog responds to different movements so it promotes different exploratory movements in Kieran. Towards the end of the clip Kieran uses his elbow to strike the corner of the Skoog creating a different effect. again He is playing his music here, this is not sequenced or programmed he is listening, focused and making choices.
