The Skoog is a brilliant musical instrument. It's fun to play, looks and feels great and is really appealing to children and young people. I like the fact that you can get some really weird and surprising results from it, although I'm looking forward to some more abstract presets to complement the more conventional drums, bass, guitar sounds. In comparison to a lot of other music technology there's a much more intimate relationship between the way you physically interact with it as an object and the sounds you get out of it, probably because it's not just another MIDI controller; the on-board sounds have been created for the Skoog from scratch using physical modelling. The Skoog is an extremely welcome addition to the world of accessible music making. We've bought a Skoog for use in Drake Music sessions in the South West and I'm enthusiastically recommending it to Special Schools and Music Services.
