SKOOG FEEDBACK
Date: 14/06/2011
Name / School:
Moira H Thorburn from Braidburn/Oaklands School
In charge of Skoogs at Braidburn, and although not responsible for them at Oaklands, have used them there.
Please describe the range of abilities and ages that have used the Skoog:
Age 6 through 17
My pupils have been cognitively those who have sat a cluster of Access 2 units to those with a severe cognitive impairment. The pupils have also been across the whole physical ability continuum and the same applies to their behaviours.
Have you and your class enjoyed the Skoog? What was their / your favourite feature?
My pupils at Braidburn enjoyed everything about the Skoog from ease of use to the feel of it. I have enjoyed using it too - creating music for our annual CD, working within a mixed group. Pupils happy to have another piece of technology to use with the other technology in the music department.
Have you found the Skoog easy to use / set up?
To use, yes,
I have had seperate problems with the Braidburn computer system, this often caused problems with the system cutting out. Lots of glitches when in use.
Have the pupils found the Skoog easy to access?
All pupils who have used the Skoog have had ease of access, some because of their own natural ability and others because of my knowledge of my pupils bias.
Some playing with feet, others using chin, nose, and head turning.
Would you be interested in keeping your Skoogs in school and developing your work next session?
YES
I did not realise there was a chance they would be removed from my room. They are already an important tool for my efficient and continually innovative music teaching.
Additional comments / suggestions:
I would appreaciate if the day's training that was mentioned at the meeting we had late last year could be put into place just to enable me to feel sold in my skills.
I would like to commend the Skoog musician who led the sessions in my room - Lewis Forbes. He has been not only very able working with my very special pupils but has included me in sessions, taken on all my questions and helped me to increase my skills in using the Skoog and was very open to suggestions as to how he should work with certain of my pupils.
