The Sample/.wav Functions.
|
You can use the Skoog to record and play back your own sounds, play any sound you have in a .wav or .aiff format (we'll call them samples from now on). Simply click go to the Samples Tab, select one of the functions at the top, and then drag or record the sample to the side you wish either on the Samples Tab or the Skoog Tab (each colour relates to a side of the Skoog). There are two different functions:
1. Scrub
This function acts a bit like a turntable, and allows you tactile control of the sample. After assigning a sample to a surface you physically play the sample by how you squeeze - control where you are in the sample by how much you press or release. So with vocal samples you can create vibrato by squeezing in and out. The effects you can create will be different depending on the samples you use.
You must make sure your samples are trimmed correctly- there must be no silence at the start or the end of the recording.
The 'Scrub' mode works best with sustained sound samples (eg. singing "ah", "oooh", "mmmm") rather than percussive or impulsive sounds.
2. Trigger
This function turns the Skoog into a simple 5 pad trigger device. Each surface acts as a trigger for whatever sample you drag on to it. This means if you hit a side the sample will play from start to finish, as long as you don't touch that side again!(You can drag whole songs onto a surface and use the Skoog to choose what to listen to).
As with the Scrub function, you should ensure there are no silences at the beginning or end of samples/music files. (See "Trimming Samples")
Tip: Using the Skoog as a live sequencer
You can loop samples by triggering them and then re-triggering them when they come to the loop point. If you have several loops or samples at the same tempo you can perform a kind of live sequencing using the 5 surfaces to coordinate different parts of a tune.
